Our Friday Discussion: Generalization vs. Specialization
Jack in all skills, success in life. Do you really need to one skill to be successful?
Quote of today
How do you tell someone who is young to plan for a person he yet doesn’t know, prepare for a world yet not conceive.
Generalization & Specialization
Hello, it is Friday and my first Friday publication, so glad. If you can, take a minute to think back on one great achievement this week.
In Today's Friday Discussion, we shall be talking on Generalization and Specialization.
While there is a debate over generalization and specialization, it would be wise not to substitute one over the other. In our ever-changing & demanding world, we need “General Specialist”. It is to say, in our early days of life we should be groomed for general knowledge, and as we go further, we could choose to narrow ourselves to the present world. To be successful now/past/future, you need competence in general matters of life and present yourself as specialized figure.
As a company as different operations and arms, but present itself as a single-oriented company, so is the multi-discipline and diverse training required for success/fulfillment of life. You don’t just choose to give yourself to just one cause and total ignorance & negligence to every other area. NO, you could direct energy and focus to the perfection of one cause and gain competence, if not mastery in other aspect of life required.
So, in our today world where people just pursue one goal of life to be successful and a high achiever. It is of high value to build yourself on diverse foundational skills, that will ever be required in all ages and all field. Let’s be honest, majority of the skills or professions out there, in the next 10-15 years they would be obsolete or less regarded, ask a typist.
If you don’t know have clear definition of where you are heading or becoming, rather than sailing with the waves of this season. Invest your time, money and energy in these fundamental sure skills and values:
Managerial skills, Leadership skills, Financial management, Relational skills, Integrity, Honesty, Character, Physical health, Nutrition, Mental health, Emotional health and Spiritual values.
I believe no matter the year, whether time past, present age or coming future this well balanced would set a man/woman for success.
💡 So take courses, buy books, get coaches, find mentors to build yourself for success. REMEMBER: Every human reference is himself a product of references. - Dr. David Oyedepo
