My Money Problem
"Sometimes I feel obsessed with money. Like the love of money has taken over me."
Quote:
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21
Recently, I had a discussion with a friend. About money.
We were discussing our dreams and goals, and he began saying, "I would like to get a good job, an international job in the tech or oil industry, making over a million, able to settle down: have a house, and then marry.”
We began fantasising and procreating that reality, and suddenly he stopped and said, "It's just that sometimes I feel I am money-obsessed when I am driving or pushing towards my goals; it seems the love of money has taken over me."
There and then, I said, Stop! And then I began speaking on how he got it wrong and how the pursuit is not wrong, but the goal definition might be just wrong. Then I asked, "Why do you want to make that money?"
Pause.Think
Then I replied myself: I want to make good money so that I would be able to see a need and attend to it, to help my friend when they need a little round, and to give to the church in abundance without worry. to be quick in responding to the challenges of men and society around us, to have peace of mind on the next project or phase of life.
I know money doesn't automatically solve all these problems, or at least it's not the only option nor the best for some of the problems.
🚀 So, I continued. We sometimes get it mixed up when we don't start from the root, to build it upwards. But if we do, it becomes clearer that money is a viable and significant option towards our dreams. And so the pursuit, actions, and choices are not centered on money but on the dreams, which we have to remind ourselves constantly.
What’s Your Thought?
Why do you want to make that money?
What are your financial goals?
Well I have big goals for my finances, I have doubled my monthly income by one-third, I have chosen projects over a million, and have also increase my giving and investment appetite.
What new defying action have you taken towards your finances?
I recently decided to have a minimum account balance (never will I say my account is empty). That is, I will never allow my account to be below a certain amount, come what may. I have noticed that the average person spends until his/her account is zero (0) or a few hundred before they reach a panic state or at least are conscious of their money problem.
So, for me, I have increased that threshold and by all means, to keep the discipline to see it as "empty" at that figure, then actively exploring ways to bloom it.
Yes, I do have an emergency savings, but this is emergency money that would prevent breaking savings for a minute emergency.
